Plagiarism Lawsuit Against 'Harry Potter' Author Dismissed

A plagiarism lawsuit against "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has been dismissed by a U.S. federal judge. Representatives for the estate of late fantasy writer Adrian Jacobs filed suit in America in 2009, alleging the author approached Rowling's U.K. publishers Bloomsbury in 1987, 10 years before his death, and unsuccessfully attempted to sell them his "Willy the Wizard" stories.

In court papers estate administrators accused Rowling of copying parts of the plot of his book, including a wizard contest and wizards traveling by train, for her 2000 novel "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". But New York Judge Shira Scheindlin threw out the case on Thursday, January 6, writing in a 49-page ruling that there are major differences between the stories.

In papers Scheindlin writes, "Indeed, a reading of the works unequivocally confirms that they are distinctly different in both substance and style, and ultimately engender very different visceral responses from their readers. The contrast between the total concept and feel of the works is so stark that any serious comparison of the two strains credulity."

And bosses at Scholastic, the U.S. publisher of the Potter series, are pleased with the outcome. Spokesperson Kyle Good tells Reuters, "The court's swift dismissal supports our position that the case was completely without merit and that comparing Willy The Wizard to the Harry Potter series was absurd. Judge Scheindlin clearly agreed... Scholastic will continue to vigorously defend any such frivolous claims challenging the originality of Harry Potter and the brilliant imagination of its author, J.K. Rowling."

Rowling and bosses at Bloomsbury are still fighting similar claims by the estate in Britain after Justice David Kitchin refused their request to have the case thrown out last October.

'Deathly Hallows' Epilogue Reshoot Wrapped Over the Weekend

After recently returning to the set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have once again said goodbye to each other. The three main stars reshot "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" epilogue scenes just days before Christmas and wrapped it over the weekend, MTV Movies Blog reports.

The filming took place in Leavesden studios while the scenes are actually set at King's Cross Station.
The actors reportedly were looking much more comfortable than they did when they were rushed for time shooting the original scenes on the real location.

The reshoot was done after fans were not pleased with the make-up used on the stars, which made them look much older instead of 35 years old. Tom Felton also took part in the filming.

In the meantime, it has been revealed that 13-year-old Bertie Gilbert will portray Draco Malfoy's son Scorpius in the epilogue. Additionally, 14-year-old Benedict Clark is tapped to play young Severus Snape.

"Deathly Hallows: Part II", which is also helmed by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" director David Yates, is slated to hit U.S. theaters on July 15, 2011. This last installment of the series is planned to get 3-D treatment.

Emma Watson Re-Shot 'Deathly Hallows II', Calling It 'Strange'

Emma Watson has temporarily left her days at Brown University to go home to her native U.K., not only for the holidays but also for a re-shoot of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II". The actress posted a message on her Facebook page to update the filming status of the last "Harry Potter" installment.
"Hi guys, are you all ready for Christmas? Not long to go now... Exams all done and I'm back in the UK in 6 inches of snow! Currently at Leavesden filming reshoots with Dan and Rupert. Feels strange to be back! X" Watson wrote.

Re-shoot is done for an epilogue scene which would wrap up the second part. The Sun also reported that there had been a costly make-up blunder. In one scene, they suppose to look only 19 years older but the first shot had them looking quite old. Involved in this re-shoot are Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Tom Felton in addition to Watson.

The filming was actually wrapped last summer and some of the properties had been auctioned. "It was really emotional," Grint said. "We all cried. The realization that we weren't going to be doing this anymore hit me quite hard." Watson has since cut short her hair and took a role in "My Week with Marilyn".

Meanwhile, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" will be released in theaters on July 15, 2011. The battle between the good and evil forces of the Wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort.
